Camp BGen Simeon A Ola, Legazpi City— A total of 20 mass supporters and members of the New People’s Army (NPA) in the remote areas of Camarines Norte formally returned to the fold of the law on March 29, 2021, at Camp Wenceslao Q. Vinzons Sr., Brgy.Dogongan Daet, Camarines Norte.

Among the surrenderers were 8 members of the KP1; 5 from KP3; and 7 from KP5. The said surrenderers also turned in assorted firearms and explosives.

The surrender was a result of the intensified campaign initiated by PNP in close coordination with its AFP counterparts with the aim to end local communist armed conflict in the region.

Present during the activity was PBGEN BARTOLOME R BUSTAMANTE, RD, PRO5; PCOL JULIUS D GUADAMOR, Acting PD, CN PPO; Hon. Edgardo A. Tallado, Provincial Governor of Camarines Norte who welcomed the said surrenderers as they once again renew their loyalty and trust to the government.

As part of the program, the former rebels signed a manifesto and burned the CPP-NPA flags indicating their sincerity to adhere to the laws and be agents in the attainment of long-lasting peace in the region.

A former member of the rebel group also shared his griming experiences in the revolutionary movement while the only female who surrendered has been reunited with her child.

They were also given financial assistance by the PNP as they begin a new chapter of their lives away from fear and lawlessness. The same shall be enlisted to the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (ECLIP), complete package assistance given to former rebels which ought to assist them in the process of social healing as we reintegrate them into the mainstream society.

In a message given by RD Bustamante, express his gratitude to the former rebels for their testimonies and for revealing to the public the truth. He also encouraged others to lay down their arms and surrender, to live a secure and peaceful life as productive members of society.

“We assure you that you will receive all necessary support and assistance from the government for your reintegration. But to those who will continue to threaten the peace and endanger the lives of our people, you can be assured that we will employ all lawful means to eliminate you. And this we commit ourselves to do”, he added.
